Patterns are one spot in fashion that can be a point of promise or one of disaster, depending on how and what they are worn with. Those with a conservative nature tend to make patterns a small splash in their outfits:  a striped tie, a patterned shawl or a bit of dash in a shirt. The wilder style mogul tends to wear patterns in bold, yet tasteful, combinations that offset their front forward personality. They do not mind donning a shirt and pants or a skirt that feature stripes, swirls or similar combination.

Though wearing patterns fashionably can be tricky, there is a way to do so for those who fall in-between the bold and bashful. The one thing to keep in mind is to avoid too much. Try to avoid mixing certain types of patterns together, such as plaid. Putting two sets of bold plaid together can be nightmare on the eyes. The simplest way is to mix a plaid with a solid color, such a solid pair of pants with a plaid shirt. When you choose a piece of clothing with a pattern, make sure that you find colors that are easy to match with other clothes. This will make your wardrobe more versatile.

It is also smart to avoid loud colors in clothing with patterning, which can give viewers a headache. By keeping a smart fashion eye on what you choose, you will not make a grave error in your purchase. If you are unsure about your taste, take along a trusted friend who has a smart fashion sense.
